MANAGING CHAOS, ONE YEAR LATER

(© 2012 The Big C and Me)
I was scrolling through some of my old blog posts and found one that was written exactly one year ago today. In it, I talk about how to manage the post-diagnosis but pre-surgery chaos that every patient has to deal with.

"I took cancer from an angry rolling boil down to a simmer by determining the who, what, when, where, why and how of my diagnosis. This not only gave me a path and a direction, but a sorely needed compass.
Once you figure it out, managing your cancer chaos gets much easier."

Read the rest of the post hereI hope it helps any newbies out there.

  1. Renn, isn't it incredible when we can look back on how far we have come on our journey through our writings? I didn't blog when I was diagnosed over 7 years ago and only wrote sporadically in my diary, but I think it is such a great way to deal with life's challenges - to be able to write about them, and then look back and watch the progress we have made.

  2. I really like your take-charge approach to managing your cancer! I agree that writing is so therapeutic.

  3. I sometimes refer to the chaos that is cancer too. That's exactly what it is. Your earlier post will certainly help "newbies" and "oldies" alike. Thank you.

  4. Are you going through a bit of a weird time facing these anniversaries? I was diagnosed in late June and had my mastectomy in mid-July. It's almost eerie having reminders of what I was doing this time last year - never knowing what just around the corner. I enjoyed your post. What a year, huh? You've come along way - and how great to have blogged your way through it!

  5. @Marie: It's strange because I barely remember writing that post! I have been reminded many times since starting this blog that I'm glad I wrote stuff out while it was still fresh, because the mind (as you know) wants to forget.

@Pink: I was actually impressed by my own take-charge attitude! Information is the only way through this mess!

@Nancy: Thaks and I hope so! It's not always easy to channel your inner health manager, but that's what it comes down to.

@Liz: Eerie indeed! And it's one of the more powerful parts of writing down the journey: Seeing the optimism in words that don't yet see what's around the bend...

  6. That's fabulous writing, Renn. It's cathartic and fascinating to go through the older blog posts and see the progression of thoughts and reflections. I love the analogy of a boil being reduced to a simmer. xx
