AN ORDINARY SUNSET, DAY 22

DAY 22 of the #HAWMC challenge: Write about something ordinary that’s inspiring; something simple, perhaps overlooked.

Time to confess: I am a cloud chaser. I make it a point to look out the window every night to: A) see if there are any clouds in the sky; if so, then I: B) go outdoors and look up to determine whether what I see is sunset worthy. If yes, then I: C) grab my camera and head to the hiking trail. If no, then I: D) stay home and finish the dishes.

There is an odd cloud phenomenon that I've noticed; maybe you have too...
Clouds in the sky all day, but when it gets close to sundown, they disappear. What's up with that? I've been struck how often I look outside and think Oooh, it's gonna be a great sunset! only to get to a wide-open space and discover that all the clouds have gone. There must be a meteorological explanation for this; I just don't know what it is. (Please clue me in if you happen to know!)

I'm always awe-stuck and humbled by a beautiful sunset. As I noted in ode to hiking, it's nature's way of reminding me who is really in charge.

And it's not me.

  1. I love the idea of cloud chasing :) A big red sunset is definitely good for the soul.

  2. I used to chase clouds with my camera, and the moon. :) I can't look up like I used to, but I'm having some visions of the old batman mirrored spy contraption I remember from long ago... maybe time to rig something up! Beautiful photo Ren... {{{ hugs }}}

    1. Hi Carolyn, I just love to take photos, it's the way my eye sees the world. I say, rig something up camera-wise that works for you so you can enjoy your old hobby! Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Yes, but YOU are in charge in this virtual corner you have created.
